Suspected drug dealer accused of shooting man to death

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a man was shot to death Wednesday night and the suspected gunman was still on the scene when they arrived.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, Walter Morris Jr., 33, was shot in the head on Catapla Street in Donaldsonville around 9 p.m.

Jeremy Washington, 32, was arrested in connection with the shooting.

It actually happened near his home.

Deputies said when they arrived on the scene Morris was lying in the street and Washington was standing nearby.

They added he was holding a handgun.

At that point, Washington was taken into custody and Morris was rushed to the hospital.

He later died from the gunshot wound.

Detectives reported a search of Washington's home turned up crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash.

Washington was booked on second-degree murder and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine charges.

His bond was set at $425,000.

As of Thursday afternoon, he was still behind bars.
