Americorps team helps build Habitat houses

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Team leaders from Americorps spent Thursday and Friday working with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for two Baton Rouge residents.

Beginning in August, three teams will return to Louisiana to build homes with Habitat for Humanity in Lake Charles and work on rebuilding communities in the New Orleans area.

"This is a great opportunity for the team leaders to get valuable training in construction by trained professionals with Habitat while doing something impactful for the community," said Jen Prall, Assistant Program Director, Americorps' Southern Region.

Americorps is a full-time national service program for men and women ages, 18-24.  Members serve for 10 months assisting with projects in their region's communities.

Americorps' Southern Region is headquartered in Vicksburg, MS.
