PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) -
Deputies with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office are being credited for helping crack a Florida murder and it all started with a simple traffic stop early Friday morning.
The deputies pulled over an SUV around 12:15 a.m. for having the license plate displayed improperly.
Instead, the two men inside sped off and led deputies on a 12-mile chase. The men were Tyler McClain, 24, and Bradley Suntich, 25, both of Port Orange, Florida.
The chase started near the Lobdell exit on Interstate 10 westbound and ended on Sidney Road, which is just off the Grosse Tete exit, in Iberville Parish.
Also, Sidney Road is a dead end.
The Louisiana State Police helped with the chase. When the SUV tried to back out of the dead end street, the driver ran into a state police car ending the chase.
Sheriff's deputies then searched the vehicle only to find out it didn't belong to the people inside.
"We found a wallet in there that didn't match either vehicle," said Sheriff Mike Cazes. "That's when we notified Port Orange to go check on this house. Well, between the time we notified Florida officials and the time 'til they got there and made a call back to my chief, he admitted that he killed two people inside that trailer."
Florida officials found 53-year-old Laura Hill dead inside the Port Orange home.
Her daughter, Angela Hill, 25, had several injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
One of the men in the SUV is also at the hospital, while the other is at the Louisiana State Police Headquarters.
Sheriff Cazes said both will face numerous traffic charges in West Baton Rouge parish before they're sent back to face charges in Florida.
Florida authorities flew into Baton Rouge around 4p.m. Friday to question the men.
