BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A grand jury has declined to indict a 23-year-old Baton Rouge man for murder in the death of his 6-month-old son, Aiden, who showed signs of previous abuse, including having been burned in a scalding bath. The East Baton Rouge Parish panel did, however, charge Curtis King with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and a drug offense.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal is backing new restrictions on abortion providers in Louisiana. The Republican governor says he supports a measure by Democratic Rep. Katrina Jackson that would require abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education has delayed action on a $3.5 billion annual school funding formula. BESE members say they want more time to work on the spending proposal. It is due in the hands of state lawmakers by March 15.
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Police say a 46-year-old man was killed when he drove his car hit the rear of a westbound 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 in Lafayette. Cpl. Paul Mouton says the victim, whose name is being withheld until his family is notified, was pronounced dead at the scene Thursday night.
