CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -
A man charged in the murder of a 41-year-old Chandler woman found dead inside a vacant home in 2010 has pleaded guilty.
Court officials said Jaime Coronado of Chandler made the plea to first-degree murder on Thursday morning.
Police said in early March of 2010, they received a call from the woman who owned the vacant home near Frye and Arizona Avenue in Chandler. She had been alerted by neighbors that there was a commotion at the house.
The victim's son had also contacted police to report he received several phone calls at his home from a man demanding money or his mother would be harmed, police said.
Sylvia Perez, who identified herself as the victim's cousin, said the victim, Michelle Melinda Morales was homeless but sometimes stayed inside that house. Perez said her cousin never bothered anyone and kept to herself.
U.S. Marshal Service Task Force arrested Coronado the same day.
Coronado is expected to be sentenced on Nov. 28.
