Update: Barges sink

A five-mile stretch of the Mississippi River has been shut down after grain barges broke loose from a tow and two of them sank.

The river is shut down from mile marker 232 (Exxon Refinery) north to mile marker 237 (located north of Devil's swamp).  Southern University is located at mile marker 235.

The U.S. Coast Guard is expected to hold a news conference shortly.  Watch for live coverage of the news conference on WAFB 9NEWS and www.wafb.com.
