Mississippi River levees closing Friday morning

Authorities are closing down the levees on both sides of the Mississippi River.

Starting at 7 a.m. Friday, pedestrians and cyclists won't be able to go on the levees  in either Baton Rouge or Port Allen because of rising river levels.

Work crews in Baton Rouge are putting sand bags in place and installing Tiger Dams to curb potential flooding.

The closures will remain in effect until further notice.
