BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A scathing report by the Louisiana Legislative auditor criticizes the Louisiana Horseman's Benevolent and Protective Association 1993, Inc. for misusing hundreds of thousands in taxpayer money.
The association is a nonprofit that represents horse owners, riders and trainers in the state.
The report issued Monday said the organization may have used taxpayer money to set up corporations in the Cayman Islands.
It stated $11,000 intended for medical expenses was used instead as a campaign contribution for Gov. Bobby Jindal.
The association's president responded to the charges, saying attorneys are looking over the issues and working with the legislative auditors office.
