AUBURN, AL – Tiger Rags, Inc. will present a check in the amount of $30,000 to theAuburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences for student scholarships.
Jerry Rigby, president of Tiger Rags, Inc. will present the check to representatives from theAuburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences at 2:00pm CDT on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Forestry & Wildlife Sciences Building on Duncan Drive. Dean James P. Shepard and students Russell Agnew, SFWS Forestry Club Toomer's Oak Coordinator and Ryan Mitchell, president of SFWS SGA will accept the check on behalf of the Auburn University School ofForestry and Wildlife Sciences.
Tiger Rags has partnered with the Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences since 2003 to raise money for student scholarships by selling seedlings from Auburn's famous Toomer's Oaks. SFWS students have collected acorns and cultivated hundreds of seedlings each year so that members of the Auburn family might have a piece of Auburn history in their own yards. Each seedling sold benefitted student scholarships within the school.
Following the news that the oaks had been poisoned, Tiger Rags created two special Auburnt-shirts and will donate $8 of the proceeds from each shirt sold to the scholarship fund. Following the initial donation of $30,000, Additional donations will be made as more shirts are sold into the summer and during the upcoming football season.
"Tiger Rags has always maintained a close relationship with departments across AuburnUniversity and we have had a special connection with the School of Forestry and WildlifeSciences. When we heard the news that the oaks had been poisoned, we knew that we had to give the Auburn family a way to commemorate the special tradition of rolling Toomer's Corner while continuing to fund scholarships for students from the School of Forestry and WildlifeSciences," Rigby said.
Toomer's Oak commemorative t-shirts may be purchased at Tiger Rags in downtown Auburn or online at www.tigerrags.com.
