Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the massacre that took place in Tucson. The act itself is an attack against all of us. It threatens the very principles that make this country great. The right to assemble and the right to free speech are things we can never take for granted.

Something else we should not take for granted is people who are willing and eager to step up and serve their communities, people like Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords. We are a country of diverse views and opinions and we have the freedom to express them and while there are undoubtedly times we don't agree with elected officials, we should never lose sight of the personal sacrifices many make in order to serve the public.

After all, this country was founded by those brave enough to make that choice.
