BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A tandem trailer cargo truck overturned on Interstate 12 East near the Amite River Bridge Friday morning, causing headaches for travelers on the last day of 2010.
Authorities are diverting all eastbound traffic on I-12 East at the O'Neal Lane exit.
There have not been any reports of injuries, but traffic is backed up and slow-going in the area.
According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the truck was carrying a flammable liquid, but there is no indication of significant leaking.
Officials said they are waiting for more equipment to arrive so the trailers can be taken out of the ditch, turned upright and the products unloaded.
They added drivers can expect I-12 East to be at least partially, if not completely, closed throughout the day.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said drivers trying to go east will have to take O'Neal north to U.S. 190 (Florida Blvd.), then turn right (east) and cross the Amite River. They then get back onto I-12 at Denham Springs.
The Louisiana State Police is investigating the crash.
