BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge woman accused of killing her ex-husband six years ago has pleaded guilty in connection with his death.
Jan Waters pleaded guilty to manslaughter in district court Monday morning.
She said she took the plea deal because she didn't want to put the kids through a trial.
Alan Waters was shot to death as he stepped out of the shower in 2004.
Authorities said the father of two was shot after a long-running custody battle and dispute over money.
She faces up to 40 years in prison and will be sentenced to no less than 20.
The judge scheduled her sentencing hearing for Dec. 16.
Witnesses said she leaned on her lawyer crying while the facts of the case were read.
Afterwards, she said she deeply regrets her actions.
