PONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) - Two people were arrested late Saturday night for the stabbing death of Tangipahoa Parish broadcaster Rube Rogers.
Authorities said Eric Lane Maurer, 31, and his father Ricky Maurer, 51, were arrested in Humphreys County, TN just after 11 p.m.
Detectives believe Eric Maurer stabbed and robbed Rogers late Friday night, then took off with his father.
Ricky Maurer will be charged with accessory after the fact for first-degree murder.
Friends and family of the victim said Rogers raised Eric Maurer since his teenage years.
Deputies said the former Tangipahoa police juror was found lying in a pool of blood at his Ponchatoula home.
Rogers' only surviving child, Terri Bassemier, released a statement about her father.
"The untimely and brutal death of Rube Rogers has touched all those who knew him and many who did not," it read. "He loved life and always struggled to help others, even those who least deserved it."
"He recently went through by-pass surgery so he could stay on God's green earth just a little longer. His greatness is reflected in how so many people, family and friends loved and will miss him."
"There are moments in a man's life that defines his character: and for him in his last few moments to have had the ability and strength it took to pull it together and dial 911 to tell them who just attacked him was truly one of his greatest. He wanted his murderer caught. I am so proud to call him father. We can't thank all those who helped to bring justice for him enough."
