BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Public Service Commission says it will be virtually shut down if the state treasury takes another $1.9 million from the utility regulator.
In a state court filing, the PSC says the treasury has already transferred and redirected nearly $2.6 million from three PSC accounts. The PSC says its foresees losing another $1.9 million soon.
The commission has sued the Legislature, which took $4 million from the agency last year and authorized the treasury to get another $4.5 million.
Senate President Joel Chaisson has said the choice was between sweeping funds and closing universities because of the state budget problems. But the PSC says it will not be able to meet its payroll if it loses more money.
