PURVIS, MS (WDAM) - Convicted rapist James Crockett received a sentence of 35 years in prison Friday with no chance of parole.
Crockett, 38, pleaded guilty earlier this month to a rape at Parkwest Apartments in Hattiesburg back in 2009.
Prosecutors say Crockett used a stun gun and handcuffs during the rape and is also the suspect in a rape in Baton Rouge, La. and attempted rape in Hammond, La.
Crockett admitted to having 7 previous felony convictions and before receiving his sentence Crockett apologized to the victim and her family.
"If it wouldn't have been her, it would have been someone else. I was on a path of self-destruction and she got in the way. I hope the family can get on with their lives," said Crockett.
He was arrested on July 7 in Florence, Ala., where he was found near an apartment complex in possession of handcuffs and a stun gun. He was released after being charged with possession of marijuana.
