BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The 4 members of the Revenue Estimating Conference could not come to an agreement on an estimated 260 million dollar shortfall in the current budget. This Fiscal year is set to expire at the end of June. That makes the total shortfall over 700 million dollars since the first of the year.

Angelle Davis with the Division of Administration is not pleased the R-E-C could not reach a consensus; "Were gonna have to roll up our sleeves and were gonna have to work on a plan to address any potential shortfall."
The Economists presenting these revised numbers were not very comfortable with their accuracy prompting house speaker Jim Tucker to revolt.

House Speaker Jim Tucker is not sitting still. "I'm proposing a plan," said Tucker.  "I have not seen a plan from the Administration or the Senate given the new set of circumstances. We're here to work and figure this out and we will. But we're getting a little anxious there's nothing on the table to deal with these problems."

Tucker says it's better to wait until the fall to come up with a plan for dealing with this new deficit. He says around November they will have the final numbers for the 09-10 fiscal year. Those numbers, says Tucker, will be actual numbers and not an educated guess.
