Off-duty officers rescue mom, son from lake

FARMERVILLE, La. (AP) - Two off-duty Monroe police officers trying to do some night fishing on Lake D'Arbonne rescued a mother and her 5-year-old son after their car ran off the Louisiana 33 bridge in Farmerville.

The News-Star reported on Saturday that Cpls. Brandon Waggoner and Jeff Winborne heard the crash and saved 41-year-old Truly Wade of Farmerville and her son late Thursday night.

Farmerville Police Chief E. "Bim" Coulbertson says the wreck is still under investigation. He says Wade was coming from Ruston to Farmerville when the car struck the bridge railing and flipped into the water. He says the investigator's report quotes Wade as saying she fell asleep.
