Saints license plates hit legislative roadblock

BATON ROUGE (AP) - A bill to create a specialized license plate to commemorate the New Orleans Saints' Super Bowl championship was derailed in the Senate when a requirement was added that the money raised by sale of the plates be used to repay the state for upgrades to the Superdome.

Thirty-two senators backed Sen. Dan Claitor's amendment to the bill. Only Sen. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, the sponsor of the bill, was the only vote against the amendment - and then he shelved Senate Bill 506.

"This is a serious bill, and we'll talk about it some more another day," Crowe said.
