Some of the most critical issues facing Louisiana are taking center stage at the State Capitol. The legislature is grappling with important issues that will determine a future course for Louisiana and for our children.

The session has already been marked by protests, while others expressed feelings of optimism, hopeful their cause will get the proper attention and in some cases, the much needed funding.

However, when it comes to bills on whether the tea cake should be the state cookie, we wonder if that's the best use of time in this critical session. We wanted to know the issues most important to you.

In an online poll, you overwhelmingly responded the budget is the single most important issue. How lawmakers handle spending our tax dollars in these tough economic times impacts us all.

If you haven't responded to our poll and want to be heard, you can still vote. Let's hope lawmakers also hear your concerns.
