NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The FBI has opened a civil rights investigation of a bar brawl involving off-duty New Orleans police officers.
FBI spokeswoman Sheila Thorne said Friday that the bureau is investigating the incident at the Beach Corner bar on Mardi Gras night in 2008. The FBI probe is one of at least eight civil rights investigations of the city's police department.
A group of city transit workers claim they were assaulted by police officers - and one of the workers was falsely arrested after a confrontation spilled outside the bar.
An internal probe by the department found that one of the transit workers was arrested for allegedly possessing a gun that an off-duty officer had removed from a different worker's vehicle.
