COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A 15-year-old girl who is one of the youngest in Kentucky to be charged with murder in adult court has turned down a plea offer and is to go on trial Oct. 12.
Details of the plea offer from prosecutors were not made public.
Kenton County Circuit Judge Martin Sheehan set Emily Ball's trial date on Monday. Ball was 14 when she was charged with murder, kidnapping and tampering with physical evidence in the death of 17-year-old Travis White.
White was lured to a house on Madison Avenue in Covington and then beaten and stabbed to death, police say by a group of people. Two adults charged in the killing will be tried Aug. 31.
Ball's lawyer, Londa Adkins of Frankfort, says her client will cooperate with prosecutors in that trial. Adkins said she thinks a plea agreement is still possible but not until the adults' trial is over.
In court Monday, Ball gave a note to the judge expressing her remorse for what happened to White, and thanking the state for taking care of her.
