PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - A man was arrested Thursday in connection with a double murder from 2007, just as he was being released from prison after a grand jury chose not to indict him on a rape charge.

David L. Williams faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Jamie Williams, 25, and Drexel Swayzer, 27. Their bodies were found in a burned vehicle on the levee in Port Allen.

"He left that night. He asked to borrow my truck," said Letha Swayzer, the mother of one victim and aunt of the other. "I really didn't want him to use it, but I let him anyway."

Through the course of the investigation, detectives with the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office learned it was not the fire that killed Williams and Swayzer.

"Sometime between 2 and 4 a.m., we believe they were ambushed and shot in the vehicle," said Detective Kevin Cyrus.

Detectives believe the pair was shot in East Baton Rouge Parish and driven across the river to where their truck, with them in it, was set on fire.
