BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Murder charges loom for a man accused of beating another after the victim died from his injuries over the weekend.
According to the Zachary Police Department, Patrick Holden, 28, brutally beat Robby Payne as Payne slept on his girlfriend's couch.
District Attorney Hillar Moore said Payne's death will automatically upgrade the charges against Holden.
"Right now, I think the bond is sufficient," Moore said. "I don't believe the defendant is getting out, but we will advise the court that the victim passed away to let them know, but we hope to go to the grand jury this week or next week."
Holden will face life in prison if convicted. The grand jury will be asked to return second-degree murder and home invasion charges.
