BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Gov. Bobby Jindal delivered on his deadline to submit a budget to the Legislature despite Friday's snowfall.
The $24.2 billion proposal is $5.5 billion less than last year's budget. That is an 18.2 percent difference.
"We are presenting a budget to the Legislature that fully funds both the MFP for education and does not include any reductions for funding for out classrooms for higher education," said the Gov.
For the most part the majority of the reduction will be made through personnel cuts. Nearly 3000 state jobs will be eliminated with two-thirds coming out of the Department of Health and Hospitals.
The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will also eliminate its publication of Louisiana Conservationist and the Louisiana Economic Development will no longer provide "entertainment" training.
