HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Authorities arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly stole a car that was left running at a convenience store Saturday.
Ruben Henderson of Hammond was charged with possession of stolen property and resisting an officer by flight.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, the victim went inside the store for a moment and when he walked out, his car was gone. The deputy who responded to investigate the theft saw the stolen vehicle while he was still gathering information from its owner.
The deputy went after the vehicle, but its driver initially refused to stop. After a short chase, the driver gave up. He was taken into custody at gunpoint.
