FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA (WAFB) - Authorities have identified a body found by hunters in French Settlement in October as Edward Dowdy Jr., 48, of Denham Springs.

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, the LSU FACES lab collected and examined the remains to help with the identification. A DNA comparison of family members was also done. Dowdy was positively identified on Wednesday.

The body was found in the 16000 block of LA 42 in French Settlement on Oct. 31, 2009. The French Settlement Police Department investigated a crash on June 12 in the same area, which involved a Dodge pickup registered to Dowdy. The driver was never found. Investigators said at this point, foul play is not suspected in Dowdy's death.
