Fire marshal closes teen club

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - The Office of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal has ordered a teen club to shut down after a fire safety inspection revealed code violations related to overcrowding.

Stars Entertainment Palace was told to stop operations once the inspection showed the owners of the property, KTB Properties, LLC, had never received final inspection and occupancy approval from the state fire marshal's office.

"We will always take the necessary steps to ensure that buildings are safe for the public and situations like this put people's lives in danger," said Butch Browning, Louisiana Fire Marshal.  "This we will not tolerate."

Inspectors also found other fire code violations, which created dangerous conditions at the building. The club is located in the 17100 block of LA 44.

Electricity at the property has been cut off and no business operations will be allowed until fire codes have been complied with and a final inspection is done.

A shooting at the club over the weekend initiated the inspection. The state fire marshal's office received a complaint about overcrowding and investigated the claim.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is still investigating the shooting.
