BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A former high school teacher and coach in Baton Rouge faces 19 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Tuesday to three sex charges in connection with inappropriate sexual activity with a 14-year-old student. He was arrested in 2007.
Ray Clement III, a former math teacher and track coach at Redemptorist High pleaded guilty to felony carnal knowledge, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and indecent behavior with a juvenile. After the plea, the victim's mother encouraged other parents to watch what their kids do on their computer. She will not be named to protect the identity of the victim.
"You have to know what your kids are doing online," she said. "Every parent/guardian needs to be active in their kids' lives and you have to know what websites they are going to, what they are doing, who they're talking to. You just have to know what your kids are doing online."
The victim's mother stated her daughter became detached, so she installed spyware on her computer to get to the bottom of things. She said she found the teacher was talking to her daughter inappropriately. She added she feels justice will be served.
Judge Anthony Marabella set a sentencing date for April 22 and ordered a pre-trial sentence report.
