Driver dies after crashing truck into tree

LETTSWORTH, LA (WAFB) - One person is dead and another remains hospitalized after the truck they were in veered off the road and slammed into a tree Monday morning in Pointe Coupee Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police, Jacob Adams, 28, of Lettsworth was driving a Ford pickup north on LA 1, just south of LA 981 around 8 a.m. when it crossed the southbound lane, went into a ditch and didn't stop until it crashed into a tree.

Adams was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was seriously injured. He was taken to Avoyelles Hospital in Marksville, where he was pronounced dead.

Lance Coco, 22, of Hamburg was a passenger in the truck. Troopers said he also was not properly buckled. He was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge with moderate injuries.

Troopers did not indicate what may have caused Adams to steer off the road. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This was the first deadly crash investigated by Troop A in 2010.
