Holiday crashes leave 4 dead in south LA

BATION ROUGE, LA (AP) - At least four people have died Louisiana traffic accidents as the long Christmas holiday weekend opened.

According to Louisiana State Police, Leroy Blake of White Castle died Thursday in a single-vehicle crash on LA Highway 993, just north of White Castle. Authorities said Blake's vehicle ran off the road, hit a drainage pipe and landed partially submerged in a canal.

Reports showed Timothy Blanchard of Houma died in a motorcycle crash in Terrebonne Parish about Wednesday night. Troopers said the accident happened on LA Highway 659 in Houma when Blanchard ran off the road and hit a utility pole.

Two people died Wednesday night in a two-vehicle accident on LA Highway 18 in St. James Parish. The victims were identified as Alvin Lassere Jr. of Vacherie and Henry Joseph Jr. of St. James. Lassere was the driver of one vehicle while Joseph was a passenger in the second vehicle.
