AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Former Akron Police Captain Doug Prade will have an appeal of his murder conviction heard in The Ohio Supreme Court in Columbus today.
Prade's wife, Dr. Margo Prade was murdered in 1997 and he now wants the lab coat she was wearing during the murder to be tested with current DNA equipment. Prade hopes the new DNA tests will prove his innocence in his wife's murder.
Doug Prade is currently serving a 20-year to life sentence and prosecutors say the testing they used twelve years ago was current at the time and that they have a mountain of other evidence against him.
The recently created "Innocence Project" will argue Prade's case. It was formed to help wrongly convicted criminals prove their innocence using current DNA testing.
