Baton Rouge, La. (AP) - Louisiana's health department says a man from the New Orleans area was the first person to die of swine flu this month, and the 40th this year. A news release says there's been a noticeable drop in flu transmission in the past few weeks, but people should still take precautions against it.
The Department of Health and Hospitals says 1,166 health workers have given 224,869 doses of H1N1 vaccine statewide. It says the centers for disease control and prevention report that it has shipped 874,400 of the 1.2 million doses requested by the state.
Officials say that by the end of January, every Louisiana who wants the vaccine should be able to get it.
