Tank truck derails empty train car

TONEWALL, LA (AP) - The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office says a tank truck hauling salt water apparently failed to stop at a railroad crossing and hit a train, derailing one unloaded car.

Sgt. Michael Gray said the trucker, Samuel Leon Horton, 35, of St. Augustine, Texas, suffered minor injuries in the accident Friday morning.

Gray said the intersection west of Stonewall would be closed until the salt water was moved to another tanker and the damaged one removed.

He said some fuel spilled from the tractor-trailer's diesel tank.

Gray said Horton drove off the road in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid hitting the train.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick said no charges or citations have been made, but deputies are still investigating the accident.
