Baton Rouge officials announce swine flu plan

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Acknowledging widespread swine flu cases in East Baton Rouge Parish, Mayor Kip Holden and his homeland security team unveiled its strategy for managing the disease in and outside city-parish government.

The centerpiece of Tuesday's news conference was the announcement of a new program to air on Red Stick TV Cable Channel 21 focusing on swine flu, H1N1 virus, and what people need to know to avoid getting it and what to do if they have symptoms.

Plans were also announced for keeping city-parish government up and running in the event a large number of city employees become infected with the virus.

Policies would include telecommuting and re-evaluation of leave time.
