BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) - Justin Gominsky had four hits, scored twice, drove in two runs and added an inning-ending diving catch to help Minnesota stay alive in the NCAA tournament with an 11-8 victory over Southern on Saturday.
The loss eliminated the Jaguars (30-17). Southern's Jarrett Maloy allowed 11 hits and five runs in six innings.
Gominsky had a triple and a double, the latter scoring two runs in the seventh against reliever Daniel Garcia to give Minnesota (39-18) an 8-3 lead.
Southern rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie it, but Kyle Knudson's two-out RBI single in the top of the eighth gave the Golden Gophers the lead for good.
Minnesota reliever Scott Fern (3-1) got the win and Scott Matyas earned his 15th save.
