Young boy dies after being hit by car

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Port Allen boy has died after being hit by a car while trying to cross the street.

Port Allen Police Officers were called out to the 1300 block of Avenue A on reports of a traffic crash, just before 6 p.m. last night.  When police arrived they learned that a four-year-old boy was playing across the street from his home, when he ran across the street and got hit by an SUV. 

The boy was taken by Acadian Ambulance to Baton Rouge General Mid-City where he died from his injuries.  The driver of the SUV, Joseph Ernest III of New Roads, was transported to Earl K. Long to undergo toxicology tests to determine whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

No charges have been filed.  The accident is still under investigation.
