BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Two of the state's suspected cases of swine flu in Lafayette Parish have been confirmed.
The state Department of Health and Hospitals on Friday said the two new cases of H1N1 influenza bring the total count to nine, leaving 33 suspected cases still to be determined.
No new suspected cases were reported by the state lab. The two newly confirmed cases involve students from Cathedral Carmel, the first school closed as part of the state's precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
Officials say Friday's announcement brings to seven the number of cases confirmed in Lafayette Parish and one each in Ascension and Orleans parishes.
