Lake Charles plant project continues without Westinghouse Electric Co.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - State and local officials say Westinghouse Electric Co. has dropped out of a project to build a $115 million plant to make parts for its nuclear reactors, but the work is continuing.

State Economic Development Secretary Steven Moret said Friday that The Shaw Group is taking on all of the project to make structural, piping and equipment modules for Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactors.

He said he did not know why construction and operation of the 600,000-square-foot plant is no longer a joint venture with Westinghouse. The state offered Shaw $210 million in tax incentives to keep its headquarters in Baton Rouge and build the plant in Lake Charles. It also said Shaw could sell $72 million in Gulf

Opportunity Zone bonds to help finance construction.
