Louisiana is a bright spot in a bleak national jobs picture. We're the only state to have a decrease in unemployment. Louisiana had its highest employment level ever in the month of January. It's good to be singled out as a national success story. But we understand that Louisiana is not totally insulated from economic struggles.

Even with Louisiana's total number of jobs being somewhat stable, the shifting of careers between business categories can result in tense times for our workforce. But this workforce shift can have an upside. These are the times when people invest in additional education and broaden their resumes with new on-the-job training.

It is our hope that when we get to the end of this economic downturn, we will have a stronger, better educated Louisiana workforce, a workforce that will entice more companies to invest in here. To assist in bringing companies and jobseekers together, WAFB will host the WAFB Jobline Job Fair, Wednesday, April 8th at the Baton Rouge River Center. From 11am to 4pm, dozens of companies will be on hand to meet with those looking for a new career.
