Deputies arrest 17 after riot & shooting

INDEPENDENCE, LA (WAFB) - Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies have made an additional seven arrests in connection with a deadly shooting in Independence, bringing the total arrest number to 17.

All of the most recently arrested suspects have been charged with riot following an incident that happened on Longleaf Drive back on March 25th. Deputies say around 8:00pm, five people were shot and one died. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Trent Stewart. Two others were also beaten with a metal object.

Latest Arrests:

Kody Dugas (20) of Albany
Jeffery Hauck (19) of Tickfaw
James Joiner (30) of Hammond
Laramie Kinchen (21) of Independence
Glenn Laiche (27) of Independence
Roxanne Owens (17) of Hammond
Nicholas Sampey (23) of Hammond

They all were freed after posting $25,000 bond each. Deputies initially made three arrests right after the incident.

Then Friday, they arrested another seven people, which brought the total arrests at the time to ten. Everyone in this group was also charged with riot. Some of them posted the $25,000 bond. Felony charges were also added since Stewart was shot and killed during the incident.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office is still investigating and says more arrests and charges are likely.
