Voters pick new leaders, decide tax proposals

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Voters throughout many different parts of the Capital area headed to the polls Saturday to cast their ballots in some very important races.

In East Baton Rouge Parish, the city of Central voted to elect its next set of leaders. The races included mayor, police chief and council members. Mayor Mac Watts was re-elected by about 300 votes. In the race for the city's police chief, there will be a runoff.

MAYOR

Mac Watts - 52%
Jr. Shelton - 48%

POLICE CHIEF

Doug Browning - 47%
Wade Welborn - 43%
Michael Garner - 9%

In East Feliciana Parish, the village of Wilson voted to recall Mayor Joshua Thomas.

FOR Recall - 55%
AGAINST Recall - 45%

In St. Mary Parish, the city of Franklin voted to elect its next mayor.

Raymond Harris Jr. - 55%
Kenny Scelfo Sr. - 45%

There were also various tax propositions and renewals on the ballot.

    A man accused of an attempted armed robbery Thursday night was shot in the process and died early Friday morning, according to investigators. The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Kylin Spencer, 19, died at the hospital from gunshot wounds.
