BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A deadly crash on Interstate 10 claimed the lives of five people from Harvey, Louisiana. Four of the victims were children.
The driver of the minivan was identified as Mona Hines, 38. According to Louisiana State Police, she was partially ejected and died at the scene. The four children to perish ranged in age from 2 to 14.
Hines was buckled up at the time of the crash, but none of the children wore a seatbelt. Stacy Hines, 28, was the other adult in the van. She was properly restrained and was last listed in stable condition.
Seven children inside the van survived the crash. They range in age from just under a year to 14.
Troopers said the minivan was headed west into Baton Rouge, between the Prairieville and Highland Road exits, when one of its tires blew out.
The van side-swiped a refrigerator box truck, overturned and landed in the eastbound lanes.
