WALKER, LA (WAFB) - An 84-year-old woman died in her Walker home when it caught fire early Wednesday morning.
According to State Fire Marshal H. Butch Browning, Hazel Cowan was found dead on the floor of her home on Pendarvis Lane around 2:30 a.m. She had converted the living room into her sleeping room. Investigators determined the fire started in that room, but they do not know how.
Officials said the woman was a smoker who used oxygen and was known to be active early in the morning. They noted there were burglar bars around the house. The Walker Fire Department responded to the fire.
Investigators added there were no indications it was set using an incendiary.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
