Police dog finds escapee and bites him

Posted: Updated:

LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) - Jail officials said an inmate at the Livingston Parish Detention Center managed to get away for about an hour-and-a-half before he was taken back to his cell Sunday.

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, Chris Booty, 41, of Denham Springs walked into a wooded area near the jail after taking trash to a dumpster around 11 a.m.

The sheriff's office deployed its helicopter and a police dog to help track Booty.

Deputies said he was arrested just after 12:30 p.m. when "Yago" caught up to him and bit him on the arm.

"We were fortunate we had people in place quickly enough. We realized quickly enough that he had been gone," said Sheriff Willie Graves. "The perimeter set up with the air support and the canines and everybody just coming together doing what we're trained to do it worked out."

Booty was serving time for violating his probation. He is now charged with simple escape.
