BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge police identified the driver who led officers on a chase after another man allegedly tried to break into a bait car Tuesday morning.
They said William Brooks, 40, was waiting nearby in another car as the other suspect tried to break into the car as it was parked on Choctaw Drive around 1:30 a.m.
They said the other suspect ran to Brooks' car and the pair took off. Police chased them until Brooks crashed into a pole on North Street.
Officers said they didn't give up right away. They apparently got out of the damaged car and started running.
A police dog caught Brooks and he was taken into custody. The other suspect managed to escape. The list of charges Brooks faces is unknown.
The Baton Rouge Police Department has a bait car that is used to catch criminals in the act of stealing a car.
