Leonard JacksonBATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A former Baton Rouge police officer stood before a judge Wednesday morning and admitted to taking bribes.
Leonard Jackson, 45, of Prairieville pleaded guilty to two counts of bribery and conspiracy in federal court. Jackson was the fourth person arrested in connection with "Illegal Motion," a federal investigation into Baton Rouge courts.
Jackson admitted in open court that he would work with Flitcher Bell, a Baton Rouge prosecutor, to have charges dismissed, reduced or otherwise "fixed." Jackson also admitted to using his status as a police officer to collect a $10,000 gambling debt.
"We're talking about fixing criminal cases," said U.S. Attorney David Dugas. "I think we saw today Mr. Jackson acknowledge using his position as a law enforcement officer to collect illegal gambling debts. We've had prostitution. One of the matters undercover involved a case of domestic violence."
Jackson faces 10 years in federal prison and $500,000 in fines. He has had a tough last few days.
