H1N1 Virus blamed for death of Moss Bluff teen

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - UPDATE:  7 News talks with Dr. Welke on the detail surrounding the death of 14- year-old Jonathon Fontenot.

Calcasieu Parish Coroner Dr. Terry Welke has released an official cause of death in the passing of 14-year-old Jonathon Fontenot, and after an intensive investigation, Dr. Welke has ruled Fontenot died from complications from the H1N1 virus.

Fontenot, of Moss Bluff, died on Tuesday night after being airlifted to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital around 9:30 PM. He began experiencing symptoms of the flu on Saturday.

Shortly after his mother put him to bed, Jonathon's younger sister found him on the floor where he was not breathing.

Moss Bluff Middle School, where Fontenot was a student, has counselors available for the students this week.

Visitation for Jonathon will be at Saint Theordore's Catholic Church in Moss Bluff on Friday evening from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the funeral service starts at 10 a.m.
