Trail of blood leads to burglary suspect

Posted: Updated:

MAUREPAS, LA (WAFB) - A trail of blood led investigators to a pair of suspected burglars Tuesday evening.

Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies arrested Justin Bourgeois, 27, and Kirk Sonnier, 40, in connection with the crime.

Deputies said they noticed a broken window, a puddle of blood and a small amount of hair around the window when they responded to a burglar alarm at a home on Swan Street in Maurepas.

They reportedly followed the trail to a nearby home. It went up the steps to the front door, which had blood on the handle.

Deputies found Bourgeois inside the house with a large cut over his left eye. He was arrested after allegedly struggling.

He was charged with simple burglary, public intimidation, resisting arrest and failure to pay child support.

His bond was set at $41,400.

Sonnier was also in the house.

He was charged with accessory after the fact to simple burglary.

His bond was set at $25,000.
