James Threeton (Source: Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office)SPRINGFIELD, LA (WAFB) - A slew of clues left behind the scene of a burglary Tuesday evening led deputies right to a suspect's doorsteps. James Threeton, known as "Opossum," allegedly broke into a bar near his home, where he happens to be a regular.
According to Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies, three-wheeler tracks were left behind by the thief who burglarized Crawgator's Bar on Highway 22 in Springfield. They said the tracks led from the back door of the bar to a large pile of alcohol bottles. Another piece of evidence found at the scene was the tip of a knife blade. It was found right by the door where the burglar had broken in.
Deputies said the owner told them "Opossum" was a regular who often rode a three-wheeler to the bar. The 25-year-old also lives on Highway 22. When deputies arrived at his home, they reportedly found a three-wheeler hidden under a plastic swimming pool. They said the vehicle was still warm. Additionally, deputies said Threeton had a pocket knife missing the tip of the blade and a pair of shoes matching footprints left on the damaged door of the bar.
He was charged with one count of simple burglary, one count of damage to property and one count of felony theft. His bond was set at $25,500.
Deputies said as of 10:00 Wednesday morning, he was still in the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
