Donald Ray George (Source: Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office)SPRINGFIELD, LA (WAFB) - Authorities arrested a man they say was seen on video Tuesday evening stealing a jar to collect money for members of a family that were recently victims of a violent tragedy.
Donald Ray George, 42, allegedly stole the jar from Childers Grocery on Blood River Road in Springfield.
According to Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies, George confessed to the crime.
They said surveillance video inside the store captured the incident.
George was charged with one count of theft. His bond was set at $500.
Deputies said as of 9:00 Wednesday morning he was still in the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
The money was intended for the Carter family of Holden. In that incident, one family member killed three others, including a 2-year-old child, and wounded another, a pregnant woman. He later shot and killed himself.
